Thank you to all involved who made last Sunday’s annual match between Rupertswood and The Crusaders a most enjoyable one. It was ironic yet fitting that this was actually the 11th occasion the two sides did battle which coincided with Remembrance Day being the 11th day of the 11th month. Prior to the match commencing at 11.00am, players and officials formed a guard of honour and held a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice serving their country in wartime.
The Crusaders batted first and accumulated a total of 145 from their 33.4 overs before we adjourned to the main dining room at Rupertswood Mansion where we were all treated to a sumptuous lunch. Many thanks once again to Margaret, Aneta and the staff at the mansion for their wonderful hospitality. Our Rupertswood team set after the target but were bowled out 25 runs short from their 34.1 overs (perhaps a bit too much dessert). The match was again played in great spirit and it was terrific to see two ex-Rupertswood stalwarts in Kevin Barker and Michael Lane again representing our proud club.
For the record, the tally now stands at:
Rupertswood 5 / Crusaders 4 /1 tie / 1 washout
Let’s uphold this great tradition for many years to come.
