Max wins on debut in the first XI

Yet another first XI debutant took to the field for Rupertswood this weekend, with young spinner, Max Howell bowling an absolute treat in his first game. Max toiled hard during the 2017/18 season, taking 14 wickets @ 27, experiencing  dramatic gains in his ability to consistently land the ball as a tie down spinner. On debut Max didn’t disappoint, changing the momentum of a rampant Eynnesbury and picking up 1/23 of his 8 overs on the postage stamp that is the pines ground. Max’s efforts played a huge role in limiting Eynnesbury to 180 after they were on track to compile a score of 240 plus. Georgie and Bert enjoyed gracing the pines ground, with Rupo passing Eynnesbury 3 down with over 10 overs of cricket remaining.

Well done Max! We look forward to another 20 years of first XI cricket for our club!

A Trio of Debutants

Three fine Rupertswood cricketers make their first XI debut in our round one clash against Bacchus Marsh. Congratulations to Alexander Bond, Brendan Willoughby and Shane Van Rooy.

Alexander Bond has toiled hard this preseason on the back of his under 17 premiership success last year. Alexander’s persistence, ability and temperament put him in a good place to be a future prime minister, let alone a 20 year first XI player. Alex will slot nicely into the middle order and adds a wise head beyond his years.

Brendan Willoughby, the postman, adds to the first XI with his ability to hit a spot and allow his skipper to set a field. After some time away from the game, Brendan return to the club for the 17/18 season and make a solid contribution to the 2nd Xi in his comeback year. A ripping bloke and level head, Willow is a quiet achiever and is a quality addition to the first XI.

Shane Van Rooy, everyone’s favourite pizza delivery man, is another worthy first XI cricketer on debut, over the years Shane has developed a cult following with his astute observations of the game and life in general, his centuries in some of the lower grades and some notable stories out of Jan Juc and end of season trips. Shane enjoys the support or the entire club in pursuit to better himself as a cricketer with many in the club taking great joy in watching Shane’s development over the last 5 – 6 years.

Well done to all and good luck on Saturday and for the remainder of the season.

Go Rupo!
